Ricky’s First Full Chemo: A Long, but Successful Day
Today has been one of the longest days we’ve experienced since Ricky’s diagnosis, but thankfully, it has also been a successful one. Ricky received his first full chemotherapy treatment this morning, and while it was a tough process, he has pulled through like the little warrior he is.
A Long Day of Treatment
We spent the day at Jackson Memorial Hospital, waiting and watching as Ricky bravely underwent his first full dose of chemotherapy. It’s difficult to put into words the emotions that swirl around moments like these—hope, fear, exhaustion—but through it all, Ricky remains the constant source of light and strength we so desperately need.
In the PICU for Monitoring
Right now, Ricky is resting in the Pediatric ICU (PICU) where they’re monitoring him closely. The treatment is complete, and he’s handling it as well as we could have hoped. The doctors are keeping a close eye on him, and we’re waiting for him to be transferred back to his hospital room sometime later tonight.
Looking Ahead
We expect to be discharged tomorrow morning, which will be such a relief. It’s been a long road already, and we know it’s far from over, but each step forward is one to celebrate. There’s still a little uncertainty hanging in the air—we’re waiting on the results of an MRI to confirm that the tumor hasn’t spread beyond his eye and into the brain. Waiting for those results feels like holding your breath underwater, but we’re trying to stay positive and take things one moment at a time.
Ricky’s Strength
Through all of this, Ricky has been incredible. Watching him handle the ups and downs of his treatment with such resilience is both inspiring and heartbreaking. We’ll know more soon, but for now, we’re focusing on getting through the night and hoping for a smooth discharge tomorrow morning.
I’ll update again once we’re back home and have more news. Thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers—they mean more than words can say.
